Welcome to the University of Leicester Cricket Club

With cricket’s popularity growing from strength to strength, it gives me great pleasure being club captain for the next university year. The aim of the club for this season is to continue the efforts of past committees and strive to make ULCC the best club both on and off the pitch. The whole club continues to promote equality and all standards; genders and backgrounds are fully catered for. The club runs three outdoor sides with two playing in BUSA and also there are two indoor sides. We run nets every week at Manor Road and aim to help every player improve. We also are looking to continue our links with Leicestershire county cricket club by utilising their facilities at Grace Road. We also play a Twenty20 match there against De Montfort. On the social sides we run superb socials throughout the whole year with pub cricket, a trip to Nottingham and a trip to Birmingham highlights to look forward to. ULCC socials are a great place to make friends and have a good night out. Hope to see all past members and new faces throughout the season to keep the ULCC tradition of playing hard and enjoying yourself.

About the club

The University of Leicester Cricket 1st are the University "Team of the Year 2005" and "Committee of the Year" in 2006. This reflects their performance in the 2004 season in which they won a BUSA League and were runners up in the BUSA national plate aswell as the organisation and commitment the people running the club have. This makes the Cricket Club the most successful club in Leicester University Sport. The 2005 award was presented by former England and Surrey batsman and wicket keeper Alec Stewart at the Sports Association awards ceremony this summer along with "Full Maroons" for the 1st XI squad and the 2006 award was presented by Brian Moore the former Harlequins and England rugby player. The 05/06 season saw the indoor 2nd team take the title an saw promotion into the top flight along with the 1sts.

ULCC's runs 3 outdoor and 2 indoor teams.

The Club

RYDER CUP 2005

Once all the summer exams where finished (with the exception of Hanson's!) 10 golfers, 5 cadies, 3 vice-captians and the Great Tom Wilding (Captain) left the campus with the University Hockey Team to Forest Hills Golf Club to play for the first annual Ryder Cup. After an orgainsed convoy to the course the teams sat down  where the morning four balls where announced and everbody had breakfast while Ralph watched.
After Hanson and Wakeman lost the first match the Team, dressed in speically designed lightweight shirts pulled together to pick up several points, with great golf coming from Jones, Roberts and Seb. The Captians patrolled the course, and though Radio contact the captains team were in total control of the situation and the Club had a great morning. After a light lunch, with the exception of Johnson who eat rather more than a small selection of sandwiches the afternoon singles began. Total domiantion occurred from that point, the cricketers played great golf, once again lead by Hanson and Seb, with Roberts, Jones, Johners and Pose(who had managed to tuck his shirt in by this stage) playing well. Although special mention must go to Piglet, who lost his match after 10 holes. Something that Matchplay golf has never seen before! A truly great day was had by all, some of the highlights have to include the rather camp way that Greasey Nick manage to take a bag of make-up around the course with him for 8 hours straight. Ralph wearing his Club Tie with shirt on one of the hottest days of the summer and Wakeman's 12 foot put to halve his match on the 18th Green.
ULCC golfing section looks forward to the 2006 Ryder Cup where we look to retain our trophy, (which lives in Annies office.)

The University of Leicester Cricket Club 1st XI BUSA Plate finalists in 2004 and voted Team of the Year in 2005 by the Sports Association Committee. All team members were awarded full marrons.
